Defence and discipline are major focus areas for the Flying Fijians as they prepare for their opening match against Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today. Captain Tevita Ikanivere emphasized the importance of staying alert throughout the match.

“There is a saying that goes only good enough if we do the work,” the 24-year-old hooker stated to SUNsports.

Ikanivere encouraged rugby fans to come out and support the newly revamped Flying Fijians. “I’m up for the challenge, and I thank God for choosing me as captain to fulfill this role,” he added.

He anticipates a tough clash with the Samoans, noting, “We are a young team, but we have many leaders within this squad, which makes my responsibilities easier on and off the field, as everyone looks after themselves.”

After two intense training sessions, Ikanivere expressed their goal of securing a victory in their first Pacific Nations Cup match. The game is set to kick off at 6 PM.
