Flying Fijians Gear Up for PNC Final Showdown!

Fiji Water Flying Fijians coach Mick Byrne expressed his pride in the team’s performance and resilience following their semi-final victory over the USA, which secured their spot in the Pacific Nations Cup final.

Despite a challenging start, Byrne praised the team’s patience and ability to improve as the match progressed. He acknowledged the physicality and pressure exerted by the USA team but emphasized the Flying Fijians’ determination to stay in the game and emerge victorious.

“I thought we were poor at the start but all credit to the USA; they came out to play and were physical, putting us under a lot of pressure and not allowing us to perform,” Byrne remarked. “I know for a fact that we stayed in the game, remained patient, and continued to grow our game. We did give away some easy ball at times, which was a bit difficult.”

Elia Canakaivata, playing as number eight for the Flying Fijians, was awarded player of the match for his impressive performance, scoring two vital tries that significantly contributed to the victory. Canakaivata credited the fans for their support and acknowledged the impact they had on the team’s success. He also expressed his gratitude to God for his blessings and guidance, recognizing that his achievements would not have been possible without divine support.

The Fiji Water Flying Fijians are set to compete against the hosts Japan in the Pacific Nations Cup final, scheduled for Saturday at 10:05 PM. Fiji is the defending champion of the tournament.
