Flying Fijians Gear Up for Battle: Can They Defy the Odds Against Samoa?

The Flying Fijians are focusing on defence and discipline as they prepare to face Samoa in the Pacific Nations Cup opener at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva today. This was emphasized by the team’s captain, Tevita Ikanivere, during a media interaction.

The 24-year-old hooker emphasized the importance of staying alert throughout the match. “There is a saying that goes, ‘only good enough if we do the work,’” he stated. Ikanivere also encouraged rugby fans to come out and support the newly revamped Flying Fijians team.

“I’m ready for the challenge and grateful to God for choosing me as captain to fulfill this role,” he said, while expressing anticipation for a tough contest against the Samoans.

Despite the team being relatively young, Ikanivere believes they possess several leaders, making his role easier both on and off the field as teammates take responsibility for their performance.

Following two intense training sessions, the Flying Fijians are determined to secure victory in their first Pacific Nations Cup match. The kick-off is scheduled for 6 PM.
