Flying Fijians’ Future at Stake: Coach’s Review Approaches

Spread the love

Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is scheduled to report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU chief executive officer Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that it is standard procedure for the board to review all aspects of performance at the conclusion of each campaign.

Byrne has returned from Australia and will present a review of the recent tour during this week’s meeting. When questioned about the board’s satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the defeat against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in the team’s world ranking provide a foundation to build upon.

Nayacalevu also raised concerns regarding the limited access to players, highlighting that the Barbarians match at Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window.

He emphasized that all staff members, including Byrne, have key performance indicators (KPIs) as part of their job descriptions, and any directives would be provided following the review process once Byrne is back in Fiji. Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
