Selestino Ravutaumada, a winger for the Fiji Water Flying Fijians, will be sidelined from rugby for a few weeks due to an injury. This information was confirmed by Head Coach Mick Byrne.
Byrne explained that Ravutaumada underwent surgery last Monday for a serious injury that had significant prior damage. The player is now on a rehabilitation program and must stay in close contact with his surgeon for follow-up care. Although disappointed, Ravutaumada is reportedly in good spirits.
Despite the setback, the team atmosphere remains positive. Byrne noted that morale is high among the players, who had a successful training session in Nadi before traveling to Japan for their semi-final match.
Everyone else on the squad is in good health, according to Byrne, who mentioned that they completed two productive training days in Nadi. A medical check is scheduled for today, but the coach is optimistic about the players’ condition.
Byrne also expressed disappointment over the inability to replace Andrea Cocagi, who cannot play due to injuries, and noted that Mesake Vocevoce is unavailable for personal reasons. Nonetheless, Byrne believes in the team’s depth and confidence, stating that the players remaining in the squad will continue to make their nation proud during the semi-final on Saturday. The Flying Fijians will notably depend on experienced player Nasilasila to bolster their lineup.
