Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is scheduled to report to the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu stated that it is standard practice for the board to review different aspects of performance following each campaign.
Byrne has recently returned from Australia and will provide insights into the team’s recent tour. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that while the outcome against the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in their world ranking are positive factors to build on moving forward.
Nayacalevu also pointed out concerns regarding limited access to players, particularly as the Barbarians game in Twickenham coincided with the Super Rugby season and fell outside of World Rugby’s access window.
He confirmed that all staff members, including Byrne, have established key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions. Any directives will be issued after the review process when Coach Byrne is back in Fiji. Additionally, Nayacalevu verified that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
