Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne is scheduled to meet with the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to discuss the team’s recent performances. FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu shared this information with SUNsports, explaining that reviewing performance is a standard procedure at the conclusion of each campaign.
Byrne has returned from Australia and will present a report regarding the recent tour. When inquired about the board’s satisfaction with the Flying Fijians’ latest results, Nayacalevu acknowledged the disappointment with the outcome against the All Blacks but highlighted the victory over Georgia and the subsequent improvement in the team’s world ranking as positive aspects to build on for the future.
Nayacalevu also pointed out concerns regarding limited player access, particularly due to the Barbarians game in Twickenham occurring during the Super Rugby season and outside the World Rugby access window. He mentioned that these are significant issues needing attention.
The CEO emphasized that all staff members, including Byrne, have key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions. He noted that any directives would be provided following the completion of the review process when Coach Mick returns to the island.
Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation after the recent tour.
