Coach Mick Byrne of the FIJI Water Flying Fijians praised his team’s performance following their 21-12 victory over Georgia at the Adjarabet Arena. Byrne, speaking at a post-match press conference, was especially pleased with the team’s defensive efforts against a robust Georgian side supported by enthusiastic home fans.

“Tonight, our defense showcased our hard work. Although we missed some attacking opportunities, I am extremely impressed with our team’s performance,” Byrne stated. He noted that the Fijians were prepared for the physical challenge from the hosts, particularly in the breakdown area.

The match featured the debut of five new players in test rugby: Isaiah-Washington Ravula, Elia Canakaivata, Inia Tabuavou, Kitione Salawa, and Peniasi Dakuwaqa. Notably, Dakuwaqa made an immediate impact by scoring two tries and demonstrating his speed on the wing.

Looking ahead, the Flying Fijians will face the All Blacks in a test match on July 20th in San Diego, USA. This highly anticipated match will be a significant challenge as the team continues to build momentum and refine their performance.
