Flying Fijians head coach Mick Byrne will meet with the Fiji Rugby Union board this week to review the team’s recent performances. In a statement to SUNsports, FRU CEO Rovereto Nayacalevu mentioned that this is part of the standard procedure, as the board assesses all performance aspects at the end of each campaign.
Byrne has just returned from Australia and is expected to discuss the recent tour with the board. When asked about the board’s satisfaction with the team’s performance, Nayacalevu acknowledged that although the loss to the All Blacks was disappointing, the victory against Georgia and the subsequent improvement in the team’s world ranking are positive factors to consider for future development.
Nayacalevu noted that one area of concern is the limited access to players, particularly since the Barbarians match in Twickenham occurred during the Super Rugby season and fell outside the World Rugby access window.
The CEO stated that all staff members, including Byrne, have specific key performance indicators (KPIs) outlined in their job descriptions. He confirmed that directives would follow the review process once Coach Mick returns to Fiji.
Additionally, Nayacalevu confirmed that Flying Fijians manager Eleina McDonald has submitted her resignation following the recent tour.
