“Flying Fijians Captain Calls for Urgent Communication Amid Rugby Union Crisis”

Waisea Nayacalevu, the captain of the Flying Fijians for the 2023 Rugby World Cup, has expressed concerns over the lack of communication from the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). This follows a recent situation involving allegations of mismanagement within the organization that emerged more than a week ago. Nayacalevu revealed that despite their efforts, they have not received any updates from the FRU.

During a live podcast with social media blogger Lesi Vanuavou, Nayacalevu stated, “We have yet to hear from any of them. I reached out to Fiji Rugby Union Trust Board Chairman Peter Mazey, who initially agreed to facilitate a meeting between senior players and the FRU, but he became unavailable at the last minute.”

Since that missed opportunity, Nayacalevu mentioned that there has been no further contact from anyone at the FRU. He emphasized the urgency of the situation by stating, “We need to talk and iron out the issues. It is time for a clean up and especially accountability.”

Additionally, Nayacalevu noted that emails have been sent to the FRU regarding unpaid salaries for matches played against the Barbarians, Georgia, and the All Blacks earlier this year.
