The Fiji Police Force has imposed movement restrictions in Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki Towns in response to increasing water levels. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these decisions are taken for the safety of citizens and to safeguard infrastructure from potential damage and opportunistic behaviors.
Currently, there are four active evacuation centers in the Western Division, providing shelter for 226 individuals, with more residents likely to seek refuge if the heavy rainfall continues. The highway connecting Ba to Rakiraki has been closed, rendering Tavua Town inaccessible.
Police are actively evacuating residents from affected areas and are on alert to monitor the evolving situation.
This situation highlights the importance of community preparedness and support during natural disasters. Authorities are taking important precautions to protect lives and property, while residents are encouraged to stay informed and follow safety protocols. As the situation develops, there is hope that the community will come together to support those in need and ensure everyone’s safety during this challenging time.
