In response to severe weather conditions, a contingent of 160 police officers has been placed on standby in Fiji’s Western Division. Assistant Commissioner of Police for Operations, Livai Driu, has issued a warning to the community to prepare for increasingly severe conditions, particularly as reports of flooding continue to emerge.
As part of the safety measures, Ba and Rakiraki Towns have been closed to all vehicular traffic, with police actively controlling access to these areas. ACP Driu has strongly advised motorists to avoid entering these towns due to rising floodwaters, which pose significant risks.
Authorities, including police and government officials, are diligently monitoring the situation. They are committed to keeping the public informed and will provide updates as they become available.
This situation highlights the importance of community preparedness and adherence to safety advisories during extreme weather events. While these conditions can be challenging, the proactive response from law enforcement and government officials demonstrates a commitment to public safety. Let’s remain hopeful that the community will stay safe as the situation unfolds.
