The Fiji Police Force is calling for heightened awareness as many regions in the country are currently facing heavy rain and flooding during the Christmas season.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, has reported rising water levels and cautioned parents to keep their children away from flooded areas. He emphasized safety, highlighting past incidents where carelessness led to tragic outcomes.
“The Weather Office has issued advisories for the upcoming days, and we are receiving reports of flooding in various locations. We urge all parents to ensure their children stay clear of flooded waters,” stated ACP Driu.
Throughout the festive season, the police plan to monitor affected areas to minimize accidents. “Police will be actively present to oversee the situation and will check on flooded regions. It’s Christmas Eve, and we are determined to prevent any unfortunate incidents,” Driu added.
The Assistant Commissioner also appealed to the community for cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety during this holiday period.
