Several rural roads in Fiji’s Central and Northern Divisions remain closed due to flooding, prompting authorities to issue strong advisories for travelers to exercise extreme caution and adhere to all road closure alerts.
In the Central Division, key routes that have been significantly affected include Savu Road in Naitasiri, which is flooded. Other roads experiencing flooded crossings are those leading to Viria Village, Vatulili, and Navulokani. Additionally, Nabukaluka Delailasakau Road has suffered from a landslide, along with washouts and flooding, complicating travel further in this area.
The Northern Division has also faced challenges, with Coqeloa Road reporting a flooded crossing at Qelemumu and Vunivutu Road similarly affected by rising water levels. Other impacted roads in the Northern Division include Boubale Road (Qawa Crossing), Sevaci Korotasere Road (Nayagalevu Crossing), Dreketilailai Road (Konasami Crossing), and Vuniyalayala Road (Vuniyalayala Crossing), all of which have been affected by flooding.
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is actively monitoring the situation and is committed to providing further updates as conditions evolve. They emphasize the importance of road safety during adverse weather and encourage the community to stay informed and adhere to safety measures.
While these closures present significant challenges for local travel, the proactive response from the FRA assures residents of ongoing efforts to manage the roads appropriately. The hope is that as weather conditions improve, these key routes will soon be reopened, facilitating better connectivity and normalcy for the affected communities.
