Commissioner Northern Uraia Rainima has urged parents to carefully consider their decisions regarding sending children to school in light of the recent flash floods that affected Labasa. Following an inspection of the flood-prone areas, Mr. Rainima emphasized the importance of safety by advising parents against allowing their children to cross flooded roads or areas.

He highlighted the need for families to stay informed by listening to weather bulletins and accessing weather updates online if they lack a radio. The Commissioner was briefed by the Fiji Roads Authority about multiple road closures in the Northern Division and warned that adverse weather conditions are expected to persist in the ensuing days.

“Residents in low-lying areas must exercise caution and make informed choices during the day, especially regarding moving to higher ground,” Mr. Rainima said. He also called on business owners to secure their properties and urged farmers to ensure the safety of their livestock.
