Emergency operations centres in the Western Division of Fiji will remain active as the Fiji Meteorological Service forecasts ongoing rainfall through the weekend. In light of this situation, Divisional Commissioner Western, Apolosi Lewaqai, has urged the community to take necessary precautions in response to the expected weather conditions.

To assist those affected by earlier flooding, food rations were delivered today to 61 families currently housed in evacuation centres such as Andrews Primary School, Saioni Church, Korovuto Secondary School, and the Vou Dance Group Office. These centres have been bolstered by support from local faith-based organizations, non-governmental groups, businesses, and the Ministry of Health, who have generously provided cooked meals, bottled water, food supplies, and hygiene kits to those in need.

For those requiring assistance during this challenging time, contact information has been provided for the Commissioner Western’s Office and local police stations, ensuring that help is readily available.

This community response highlights the solidarity and support within the region, as various organizations and individuals come together to help those who are struggling due to the adverse weather conditions. It serves as a reminder of the strength and resilience of the community in facing challenges together.

Summary: Emergency operations centres remain active in Fiji’s Western Division due to ongoing rainfall. Food rations have been distributed to families affected by recent floods, with strong community support in providing meals and supplies to evacuation centres.
