Families in the regions of Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua are facing significant challenges after their homes were inundated due to heavy rainfall last night. Many residents in low-lying areas have been forced to seek temporary shelter as their residences became uninhabitable.
Apolosi Lewaqai, the Divisional Commissioner for the Western region, provided an update today, highlighting a ray of hope as floodwaters begin to recede. “As of now, the water is receding thanks to the heavy rain last night in Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua. Some families have relocated to evacuation centers. I received a call late last night from a family in Ba who were stranded and required assistance to reach a safe center. We will continue to assist anyone in need until the waters fully recede,” he said.
Lewaqai expressed optimism, stating that a return to normalcy for the affected communities is anticipated soon. “Today, everyone is expected to move back towards normalcy, and we are committed to helping families and businesses recover during this transition,” he added.
This update is reassuring for the affected families as they navigate through this challenging time, with local authorities providing the necessary support. The resilience of the communities, combined with the ongoing efforts of officials, will pave the way for recovery and rebuilding after this unfortunate event.
