Families in Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua have faced significant challenges as their homes were inundated by floodwaters following heavy rainfall last night. Many residents living in low-lying areas have been forced to seek refuge elsewhere, as their homes became uninhabitable.

Divisional Commissioner Western for Police, Apolosi Lewaqai, provided an update today, noting a positive development: floodwaters in the Western region of Fiji are receding. He reported that some families had to relocate to evacuation centers, with assistance provided to those stranded. “As of now, the water is receding in Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua. We have been moving individuals to safety as needed,” Lewaqai stated.

Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about recovery, indicating that efforts are underway to help families and businesses regain a sense of normalcy. “Today, they are expected to return to normal as we work together to facilitate this process,” he added.

This update brings a sense of hope and reassurance to the affected communities, emphasizing resilience and support in the face of adversity. The receding waters signal the beginning of recovery efforts, highlighting the strong community spirit that prevails when facing challenging circumstances.
