Following recent flooding in Nadi, 190 evacuees have been instructed to return to their homes. However, five families have expressed a need to delay their return due to persistent high water levels in their neighborhoods. Andrews Primary School has been serving as an evacuation center since the severe weather impacted the area three days ago, particularly affecting residents from low-lying regions such as Nawaijikuma and Nawakalevu settlement in Nawaka.
Nadi District Officer Alifereti Abenisiga emphasized the need for evacuees to clear the classrooms by 3 PM yesterday. While many families have begun their return, the five families concerned are worried about potential additional rainfall exacerbating the situation. Evacuee Veveni Waqamasinika highlighted their gratitude for the shelter provided and mentioned the community support they received during this challenging time. He noted the efforts from local organizations, including the Muslim community, Hare Krishna group, and various NGO partners, which played a crucial role in assisting those affected by the floods.
