After being advised to return home, a small number of evacuees in Nadi have requested an extended stay due to persistent flooding in their neighborhoods. Following three days of adverse weather, Andrews Primary School has been serving as an evacuation center for those displaced, particularly families in the low-lying areas of Nawaijikuma and Nawakalevu.

Nadi District Officer, Alifereti Abenisiga, pointed out that most families have returned home, but five families remain concerned about the water levels around their residences. An evacuee, Veveni Waqamasinika, shared that these families are anxious about the potential for more rain and have requested an extra day for safety. Despite this, the District Officer instructed all evacuees to vacate the classrooms by 3 PM yesterday.

Mr. Waqamasinika expressed gratitude for the shelter provided and indicated that they have been actively checking on their properties and cleaning up post-flood. He also noted the support received from various community organizations, including the Muslim community, the Hare Krishna religious group, and several NGOs, which helped to provide assistance during this difficult time.

In summary, while the majority of evacuees have returned home, a few families highlight ongoing concerns regarding flooding. This situation emphasizes the importance of community support in times of crisis, showcasing how various organizations and individuals come together to help those in need.

As conditions improve, there is hope that the remaining families will soon be able to return home safely, marking a positive step towards recovery in the region.
