Spread the love

The Fiji Police Force has implemented restrictions on movement in the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki due to increasing water levels caused by heavy rainfall. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these measures are crucial for ensuring safety and safeguarding infrastructure from potential damage and opportunistic behavior.

Currently, four evacuation centers are operational in the Western Division, providing shelter to 226 individuals, with more people expected to seek refuge if the rains continue. The highway connecting Ba and Rakiraki has been closed, rendering Tavua Town inaccessible.

Police are actively evacuating residents from affected areas and are prepared to respond to any changes in the situation.

The proactive measures taken by the authorities highlight their commitment to public safety and welfare during adverse weather conditions. As the community navigates through these challenges, the support from evacuation centers and law enforcement personnel is crucial in ensuring that those affected receive the assistance they need during this tough time.

In summary, while the current flooding poses significant challenges, local authorities are taking steps to protect residents and maintain safety in the impacted areas.
