The Fiji Police Force has implemented movement restrictions in the towns of Ba, Tavua, and Rakiraki in response to rising water levels. Assistant Commissioner of Police – Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that these precautions are necessary to ensure safety and protect infrastructure from potential damage and looting.

Currently, there are four active evacuation centers in the Western Division, providing shelter for 226 individuals, with expectations of more evacuees if the rainfall continues. As a result of the flooding, the highway between Ba and Rakiraki is closed, and Tavua Town is currently inaccessible. Police forces are actively evacuating residents from disaster-hit areas and are prepared to monitor the situation as it develops.

This unfortunate situation highlights the importance of community safety measures and the proactive response by local authorities. By prioritizing the safety of residents and infrastructure, the Fiji Police Force is playing a crucial role in navigating these challenging weather conditions.

In the face of adversity, local communities are coming together, providing support to one another during this difficult time. With the ongoing strategies for evacuation and safety in place, there remains hope for a swift recovery and restoration once the weather improves.
