Families in Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua have faced significant challenges following heavy rainfall that caused flooding in their communities. Many residents in low-lying areas have been forced to evacuate their homes and seek shelter elsewhere as their houses have been rendered uninhabitable.

Apolosi Lewaqai, the Divisional Commissioner Western for Police, provided an update on the situation, confirming that while some families have relocated to evacuation centers, there is encouraging news for the affected areas as floodwaters are beginning to recede. Lewaqai shared that efforts were made to assist those stranded, including a family in Ba who required immediate assistance to reach safety.

The good news is that conditions are improving, with the expectation that normalcy will soon return to the Western side of Fiji. “Today, they will go back to normal, and we are working to support families and businesses in achieving this,” Lewaqai stated.

In the wake of this natural disaster, the resilience of the affected communities and the quick response from authorities are commendable. As floodwaters recede, there is hope for recovery and rebuilding, underscoring the strength and unity of the communities facing these hardships.

This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and community support in times of crisis, and the eventual return to normal day-to-day life is a testament to the determination of the residents and local authorities.
