Families in Ba, Lautoka, and Tavua have faced significant challenges as their homes were flooded following heavy rainfall last night. Many residents in low-lying areas have been forced to evacuate and seek shelter elsewhere due to the uninhabitable conditions.

Apolosi Lewaqai, the Divisional Commissioner Western for Police, provided an update today on the situation, reporting that good news is on the horizon as flood waters have begun to recede. He noted, “As of now the water is receding due to the heavy rain last night in the areas of Lautoka and of course Ba and Tavua. Some families have moved to the evacuation centers, and late last night, I received a call from a stranded family in Ba who needed assistance to reach a center.”

Lewaqai emphasized that there are plans to continue relocating individuals if necessary until conditions improve. He expressed optimism about a return to normalcy, stating, “So today, they will go back to normal, and we are trying to help families and businesses reach this normalcy.”

This highlights the resilience of the communities affected and the ongoing efforts by local authorities to support those in need. As the waters recede and families return home, it’s a reminder of the importance of community strength and support in times of crisis.

In summary, while the flooding initially left families displaced and their homes at risk, recovery efforts are underway, bringing hope and the prospect of restoring normal life in affected areas.
