Numerous rural roads in the Central and Northern Divisions of Fiji are currently closed due to severe flooding, leading authorities to advise travelers to exercise extreme caution and comply with all road closure regulations.
In the Central Division, roads such as Savu Road in Naitasiri are significantly flooded, and other affected routes include those leading to Viria Village, Vatulili, and Navulokani, all of which have flooded crossings. Additionally, Nabukaluka Delailasakau Road faces not only flooding but also issues stemming from landslides and washouts, making travel even more hazardous.
The Northern Division is experiencing similar challenges. Coqeloa Road is affected by a flooded crossing at Qelemumu, while Vunivutu Road is also seeing rising water levels. Other impacted roads include Boubale Road (Qawa Crossing), Severaci Korotasere Road (Nayagalevu Crossing), Dreketilailai Road (Konasami Crossing), and Vuniyalayala Road (Vuniyalayala Crossing).
The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) is actively monitoring the situation and is committed to providing updates as conditions evolve. Their ongoing efforts reassure the community that safety remains a top priority during these challenging weather events.
This situation emphasizes the importance of roadway safety and the need for the community to stay informed about local conditions. While flooding presents significant challenges, the proactive approach of the FRA reflects a commitment to public safety, and hopefully, conditions will improve soon, allowing for the safe reopening of these crucial routes.
