Flood Alerts Issued: Urgent Evacuation Recommendations for Sigatoka and Nausori

Authorities are urging residents in flood-prone regions between Sigatoka and Nausori to seek higher ground immediately. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the importance of taking precautions in light of rising water levels as high tide approaches around midnight.

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the weather office have communicated the risks associated with the flooding, and residents are encouraged not to take any chances. Police have been actively monitoring the situation in both towns and have identified potential evacuation centers that will be available should the need arise.

Motorists are advised to exercise extreme caution while navigating flooded roads, and anyone requiring assistance should call the designated emergency number, 917.
