Flood Alert: Residents Urged to Seek Higher Ground Before Midnight

Residents in flood-prone areas between Sigatoka and Nausori are being urged to evacuate to higher ground immediately due to rising water levels. Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized the need for those living in these areas to take precautions and move to safer locations before high tide approaches around midnight.

Driu noted that the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) and the weather office have alerted everyone about the potential risks, advising against complacency. The police are actively monitoring the situation in both towns as water levels continue to rise.

Evacuation centers have been established and will open if necessary to assist those in need. Additionally, motorists are encouraged to exercise caution while driving on flooded roads. For assistance, residents can call 917.
