A flood alert is currently in effect for areas in Fiji that are prone to flooding, particularly along and downstream from the country’s major rivers. According to the Fiji Meteorological Service, the rainfall recorded over the past 24 hours, from Saturday to Sunday morning, varied between 30mm and 47mm in the Northern region.

The Fiji Met reported that water levels in all major rivers remain below their respective flood alert thresholds, indicating the situation is manageable at this time. However, a flash flood warning has been issued for low-lying areas, especially small streams in the Northern division that are susceptible to sudden flooding.

An active trough of low pressure, along with associated clouds and rain, is currently slow-moving over the northeastern parts of Fiji. As a result, heavier rainfall is anticipated later today for the Yasawa and Mamanuca groups, as well as the Northern Division, Northern Lau Group, and the western half and interior of Viti Levu.

While the situation is being closely monitored, the current reports of water levels remaining below the danger mark provide a sense of reassurance to the residents. Authorities are urging the public to stay informed and prepared as weather conditions can change rapidly. Continued vigilance can help ensure safety and mitigate potential impacts from sudden adverse weather.

In summary, while flood alerts and warnings are in place, the current data indicates that the situation is under control for now, providing a hopeful outlook for those affected by the weather conditions in Fiji.
