A flash flood alert has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas in Vanua Levu and most regions of Viti Levu, encompassing Nadi, Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Navua, Suva, Nausori, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Naitasiri, and the Serua-Namosi provinces. This alert comes as a result of a low-pressure system approaching Fiji from the west, which is expected to bring clouds and rain over the coming days.

The Fiji Meteorological Service warns that flooding is likely to occur in drainage areas, small streams, low water bridges, iris crossings, and on roads in these vulnerable areas. The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) has urged residents in affected regions to remain vigilant and to heed all safety advisories.

This situation echoes previous alerts which highlighted similar threats due to active low-pressure troughs affecting the islands. Residents have been consistently reminded to avoid crossing or swimming in flooded areas where water levels exceed knee height, as flash floods can be particularly dangerous.

As the islands brace for heavy rainfall, local communities are encouraged to prepare for potential disruptions and stay informed about the evolving weather conditions. The community’s resilience and adherence to safety protocols will be crucial in navigating these challenging circumstances, fostering a collective effort to stay safe during this weather event.

In summary, while the forecast poses significant challenges, it also presents an opportunity for communities to come together, support one another, and demonstrate their spirit in overcoming natural adversities.
