Five shortlisted for Fiji Rugby Union CEO as leadership race heats up

Five candidates have advanced to the shortlist for the chief executive role at the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU). FRU Board chairman John Sanday confirmed that among the shortlisted applicants, two hail from overseas while three are locals.

Twelve applications were received by the local recruitment agency, Maximise, by the submission deadline of November 15. This agency was tasked with assessing the applicants according to the position’s specified criteria set by the FRU.

“The FRU Board approved a shortlist of five applicants. These candidates are currently under review, and interviews are being arranged for next week, with a final decision set to be made by the end of next week, December 12,” Sanday stated.

The selected candidate will be tasked with guiding the FRU into a new era that aligns with contemporary rugby demands. The position requires a leader with a proven track record in strategic leadership and organizational capabilities in both domestic and international rugby arenas. Candidates must be prepared for long working hours and extensive travel, demanding a high level of energy and focus.

Sanday also indicated that once the key positions are filled, the FRU plans to undertake an organizational review to ensure it meets the commercial and professional standards of modern rugby. Currently, Koli Sewabu is serving as the acting CEO.

This pivotal appointment is expected to bring fresh leadership and direction to Fiji Rugby, enhancing its operations and competitive stance in the sport globally.
