Five individuals appeared in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court connected to a significant drug seizure in Vatia, Tavua. Among the accused is 42-year-old Norman Fisher from Vuda Lautoka, along with 46-year-old Manasa Saladrau from Waiyavi, 36-year-old Sunia Kobululevu, 33-year-old Trevis Cheer from Nanuya Street, Lautoka, and 23-year-old Anaseini Rokolati, an Australian citizen.
The group faces conspiracy charges linked to the illegal transportation, transfer, and storage of 2.6 tonnes of cocaine between November 1 and January 15. In addition, both Saladrau and Rokolati have been charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs after allegedly being found with 0.8 grams of methamphetamine on February 1. Kobululevu is also facing a charge of criminal intimidation for reportedly threatening police officers through social media, claiming he would shoot them.
Furthermore, Saladrau has been charged with destroying evidence, accused of willfully destroying a mobile phone that may have been needed as evidence in ongoing judicial proceedings.
All five individuals have been remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear in the High Court in Ba alongside 11 other defendants on February 27. This ongoing case highlights the serious nature of drug-related offenses and the legal consequences that follow, emphasizing the importance of law enforcement’s efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
