Five of Fiji’s most promising athletes have been awarded esteemed scholarships through the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Solidarity Program, a significant step towards their preparations for the upcoming 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The athletes who have received these scholarships are Viliame Ratulu (sailing), Gerard Takayawa (judo), David Young (swimming), Heleina Young (athletics), and Lolohea Naitasi (taekwondo).

These IOC Solidarity scholarships are pivotal, as they offer essential monthly financial and technical support that will enable the athletes to access high-performance training environments as they gear up for the LA 2028 competition. The comprehensive support package encompasses vital elements such as coaching, medical services, exposure to competitions, international travel, and other resources critical for elite-level athletes.

This initiative not only aims to bolster each athlete’s qualifications for the Games but also enhances their capability to compete against top-tier global athletes. The scholarships represent a significant investment in the future of Fiji’s sports talent, underscoring the commitment of the IOC to support athletes from all corners of the world as they aspire to achieve Olympic success.
