Five individuals are set to appear at the Ba Magistrates Court today as authorities continue their investigation into a significant drug seizure in Vatia. The accused include a 49-year-old foreign national, a 33-year-old unemployed woman, a 40-year-old boat captain, and two self-employed men aged 34 and 39, all hailing from Suva.

Following a thorough consultation with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, each of the five faced charges of Conspiracy to Commit the Importation of Illicit Drugs, as outlined in Section 49 of the Crimes Act 2009 and Section 8 of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.

Police allege that from November 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026, the accused conspired to unlawfully import, transport, transfer, and store an estimated 2,644 kilograms of illicit drugs within Fiji. Additionally, the foreign national is confronted with two counts of Possession of Items Believed to Be Proceeds of Crime under Section 70(1) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997. Meanwhile, the 33-year-old woman and the 34-year-old self-employed man have also been charged with one count each of Possession of Items Believed to Be Proceeds of Crime.

The Fiji Police Force has confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and there may be further arrests as new leads emerge in this case. This ongoing effort highlights the commitment of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking and organized crime in Fiji, ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.
