Fishing Fever: Flames Set to Ignite the Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024

Team Flame Tree, led by captain Peter Levestam, is the frontrunner to win the highly anticipated Flame Tree-sponsored Fiji Classic Game Fishing 2024, which is set to kick off this weekend. This event, organized by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club, proudly celebrates its inaugural anniversary tournament.

A mix of highly skilled anglers is set to compete, including Peter Levestam, Jared Wood from Ice T, Thakor Punja of Lunasea, Darren Smith representing Hoodlum, Alex Leigh, Marc McElrath, and female angler Cristina Valente from Sidestep.

Event coordinator Glenn Wakeman highlighted the impressive turnout of both local and international anglers. “The winning team will earn an invitation to the Offshore World Championship in Costa Rica in 2025, alongside a cash prize of $10,000,” he mentioned.

Participants can look forward to an array of prizes spanning various categories for species, individual anglers, and boats, in addition to spot prizes. The tournament will take place at the newly established Clubhouse at Port Denarau Marina, conveniently located next to Sails Restaurant.

With substantial cash prizes at stake, the tournament will feature overall major awards, including the Champion Team trophy along with a $10,000 cash prize. Additional recognitions will be presented for Champion Male, Female, and Junior Anglers, along with a prize for the Last Man Standing.

Currently, Team Flame Tree is leading the season’s team tally with an impressive 2313.7 points, closely followed by Ice T with 2278.4 points, and Hoodlum with 1715.5 points. Top individual anglers also include Jared Wood with 1771.8 points, Peter Levestam with 1500 points, Thakor Punja with 1000 points, and Darren Smith with 555.4 points.

As the event unfolds, there’s a palpable sense of excitement and camaraderie among participants, reminding everyone that fishing is not just about competition, but also about building friendships and creating lasting memories.

This tournament not only marks a thrilling chapter in Fiji’s fishing community but also heralds a bright future for local sporting events, promising growth and engagement in outdoor activities for all enthusiasts.
