Fiji’s rugby referees will be honored at the inaugural Fiji Rugby Referees Awards, set to take place on December 20 at the Vodafone Arena in Suva. This event, the first of its kind, aims to recognize the hard work and dedication of referees throughout the nation and will feature multiple categories, including awards for the Male and Female Referee of the Year.
Movements International Fiji Limited has become the first corporate sponsor for these awards, showcasing a commitment to supporting rugby officiating. During a press conference at the Fiji Rugby Union office, Latika Devi, the company’s finance and human resources director, expressed enthusiasm for this opportunity. “This sponsorship aligns with our belief in investing in sports and underlines the vital role of rugby referees as key figures on the field,” she stated.
Talimo Waqa, chairman of the Fiji Rugby Referees Association, acknowledged the partnership with Movements International as a demonstration of respect for the referees and their contributions to the rugby community. He emphasized the importance of values such as respect, solidarity, and integrity in this collaboration.
The awards night will begin with a cocktail reception from 6 PM to 7 PM, followed by the awards ceremony running from 7 PM to 11 PM. Organizers have extended an invitation for more corporate partners to join this significant celebration, which aims to highlight the achievements of rugby referees and inspire future talent in the sport.
With the support of the Fiji Rugby Union and increasing corporate engagement, the night promises to uplift the recognition of referee contributions across all levels of rugby in Fiji. This celebration aligns with broader efforts to enhance the esteem for officials in various sports and aims to foster a greater appreciation for their roles, setting a hopeful path for the future of officiating in Fiji.
