The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji has issued a warning to the public regarding the use of fireworks near airports. CAAF highlighted that there have been numerous reports of aviation incidents related to fireworks in airport areas, particularly during the Diwali festival.

The authority stressed that any fireworks aimed at or near aircraft, especially during critical phases of flight like take-off and landing, pose a significant risk to both the aircraft and the safety of passengers.

CAAF emphasized that shooting or directing fireworks close to aircraft that are flying, taxiing, or parked is a serious violation of Fiji’s Air Navigation Regulations established in 1981 and constitutes a criminal offense.

Individuals who witness any firework activity directed at an aircraft or airport are urged to report it immediately to the nearest police station.
