A 24-year-old man has been remanded in custody on charges related to the theft of a firearm from the Republic of Fiji Military Forces. The court is scheduled to hear his bail application today.

Sitiveni Tavakece appeared in the Nadi Magistrate’s Court yesterday, facing two theft charges and one count of possessing a firearm without a license. On September 25, Tavakece allegedly stole a 9mm pistol, valued at $1,500, and is also accused of taking three souvenir medals from the RFMF.

Reports indicate that the state plans to file a third charge against him today. The case has been adjourned until 9:30 am for further mention, with bail having been denied.
