The National Fire Authority (NFA) has confirmed that the fire that ravaged Aosen Food Takeaways in Nabua on Sunday originated in the cooking area. NFA CEO Sowane Puamau stated that though the source of the fire has been identified, the exact cause remains undetermined.
Emergency responders received a call at approximately 1:57 PM and promptly dispatched two fire trucks along with eight officers to battle the blaze. The concrete structure, complemented by a corrugated iron roof, sustained 80 percent damage, with losses estimated at $100,000.
Puamau emphasized the importance of safety for business owners, particularly in the culinary sector. He urged eatery proprietors to properly store flammable materials in designated areas to minimize risks. Additionally, he pointed out the need for fire safety training among staff in high-risk establishments to ensure preparedness in emergency situations. Such training can equip employees with the knowledge needed to act swiftly in case of a fire, potentially reducing further damage and safeguarding lives.
This incident serves as a reminder of the critical need for fire safety awareness, especially in light of previous fire incidents, including a significant blaze at Auto City Place in Raiwaqa, Suva, that highlighted similar concerns about preparedness and response. As the community reflects on these events, there’s hope for increased vigilance and improved safety measures among local businesses, fostering a culture of preparedness that can ultimately prevent future occurrences.
The NFA continues to advocate for fire safety and training as essential strategies to support business sustainability and protect lives. By prioritizing these measures, business owners can enhance their resilience against potential fire incidents in the future.
