A significant fire at John Wesley College in Raiwaqa has resulted in the destruction of several vital facilities, including the Technical Drawing room, science lab, computer lab, home economics room, and staff room. The CEO of the National Fire Authority, Puamau Sowane, acknowledged that many firefighting trucks arrived late to the scene, suggesting that a timelier response could have mitigated the damage.
While the situation is undoubtedly challenging for the school community, it also presents an opportunity for resilience and rebuilding. The loss of these facilities may pave the way for upgrading the school’s infrastructure and creating modern learning environments.
Schools are at the heart of communities, and the combined efforts of students, staff, and local organizations can lead to a swift recovery and improved facilities that support enhanced educational experiences in the future.
