Fire Destroys Homes, Leaving Dozens Displaced in Nasinu

A fire in Caubati, Nasinu, on Tuesday, September 3, has left 22 individuals homeless after two wooden houses were destroyed. The National Fire Authority received an emergency call at 9:59 AM, with crews from the Valelevu, Suva, and Nakasi Fire Stations responding quickly to the scene. By 11:12 AM, the fire was reported under control, though it resulted in over 95% structural damage to the two homes. One house was occupied by 17 people, while the other housed 5. An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire. Puamau Sowane, Chief Executive Officer of the National Fire Authority, emphasized the importance of fire safety, advising homeowners to utilize appropriate building materials and to hire licensed electricians to avoid electrical faults, which are a common cause of residential fires.
