Firefighters in Labasa managed to effectively contain a fire that erupted yesterday afternoon at the Damodar City Mall building. The blaze was first reported to be emitting smoke from the electrical switchboard, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Extra Supermarket, which operates within the facility, confirmed that its electrical infrastructure is separate from the affected area. They also stated that they have a backup generator, allowing them to remain open for business as usual starting today.

Authorities acted swiftly to control the situation, showcasing the importance of prompt emergency responses in mitigating potential disasters. This incident aligns with growing concerns over fire safety in the region, especially as Fiji has been seeing an uptick in fire incidents.

Recently, there have been reports of various other fires that have raised alarms regarding electrical safety and the need for enhanced preparedness in communities and businesses. Experts continue to stress the importance of regular inspections of electrical systems and proper handling of flammable materials, which are vital in reducing fire-related incidents.

The successful containment of the fire at the Damodar City Mall serves as a positive reminder of the community’s readiness to manage emergencies effectively. Continued vigilance and improved fire safety measures are crucial steps toward safeguarding lives and properties against similar threats in the future.
