The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to participate in the upcoming event. With registration closing tomorrow, there is an urgent call for more teams to sign up.
Finau mentioned that currently, there are 12 teams confirmed for Tier One, with a target of 16 teams. If the needed sign-ups are not met by the end of the week, the final roster will be locked in at 12 teams. For Tier Two, which is meant for regular sevens teams, 16 teams have already registered, pending final confirmations and payments.
In the women’s category (Tier Three), six teams have confirmed their participation, with hopes to reach a total of eight. Meanwhile, in the Under-19 category (Tier Four), eight teams are confirmed, but there is a similar push to attract eight more teams.
To facilitate age verification for the Under-19 category, voter registration ID cards will be utilized. Finau stressed that registration is on a first-come, first-served basis across all categories, with tomorrow marking the registration deadline.
The tournament aims to raise $30,000 to help complete the Nataleira Methodist Church, which suffered significant damage during Cyclone Winston and was ultimately destroyed by Cyclone Harold.
Ticket prices for the event have been set, with affordable options for children and adults across the competition days.
This tournament not only promotes sports and community spirit but also plays a vital role in rebuilding essential infrastructure following natural disasters. There is hope that the call for more teams will be answered, fostering both local engagement and support for a worthy cause.
Summary: The R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament is actively seeking team registrations, with closing registration tomorrow. The tournament aims to raise funds for rebuilding the Nataleira Methodist Church, damaged by two cyclones.
