The director of the R.C. Manubhai Nataleira Sevens tournament, Solo Finau, announced that there are still openings for teams to register as the deadline approaches tomorrow. Currently, there are 12 teams signed up for the Tier One competition, with a goal of reaching 16 teams. If registration remains at 12 by the end of the week, that will be the final count for that tier.
In the Tier Two category, which is for regular sevens teams, 16 teams have already registered and further confirmations are expected soon. Finau also shared that six teams have been confirmed for the women’s Tier Three competition, with hopes of reaching 16 teams. Moreover, for Tier Four, designated for Under-19 participants, eight teams have confirmed their entry with a requirement for 16 teams total.
To verify age groups for participants, the tournament will use Voter Registration ID cards. The director emphasized that registration operates on a first-come, first-served basis across all categories and is aiming to raise $30,000 through the event. The funds are dedicated to completing the construction of the Nataleira Methodist Church, which suffered partial damage during Cyclone Winston and was entirely destroyed by Cyclone Harold.
Ticket prices for the tournament have been set, with discounted rates for children under 12 and varying prices for adults on different days.
This tournament not only brings together the community through sporting events but also aids in the reconstruction of vital community infrastructure, highlighting the power of sports in fostering unity and recovery.
In summary, the Nataleira Sevens tournament is swiftly approaching its registration deadline, inviting teams for an exciting competition while simultaneously contributing to a worthy cause of rebuilding a church affected by natural disasters. This initiative showcases the resilience and collaborative spirit of the community.
