Fiji’s Youth Showcase Creativity in Climate Change Challenge

Kamil Muslim College and Tavua College emerged victorious in the recent video competition themed “Visualizing Climate Change Resilience, Adaptation, and Mitigation in Fiji.” Kamil Muslim College won the Senior Category, while Tavua College earned top honors in the Junior Category.

This competition, organized by UniFiji’s School of Science and Technology in partnership with the Australian National University and Science Circus Pacific, encouraged students to create short videos that showcase innovative, localized solutions for climate change.

Dr. Ramendra Prasad, Head of the School of Science, emphasized the critical need for climate action and the potential of youth to make an impact through creative expression. He stated that initiatives like these cultivate a knowledge-based society and are integral to education.

In addition to the top winners, Votualevu College and Vunimoli Islamia College were recognized in the Senior Category, while Xavier College and Balata College also received awards in the Junior Category. This broad recognition of multiple schools underscores the collective effort of students in addressing climate issues relevant to Fiji.

The competition not only highlights the importance of environmental awareness and activism but also provides a platform for young individuals to express their creativity and solutions to pressing global challenges.
