Fiji’s Youth Empowered to Combat Substance Abuse

Substance abuse undermines the potential of Fiji’s youths, disrupts families, and weakens the fabric of Fijian society, according to Home Affairs Minister Pio Tikoduadua.

Speaking yesterday at Natabua High School’s 70th-year cadet passing-out parade in Lautoka, he emphasized that students are a powerful force against the threat of substance abuse.

“You have the strength, discipline, and commitment to lead by example and inspire others to follow a path of health and positivity,” said Mr. Tikoduadua.

He highlighted the essential role of parents and guardians in this journey, stating that their support, guidance, and encouragement are the foundations of their children’s success. By being actively involved in their lives, parents and guardians reinforce the values children learn and help them develop the resilience needed to resist negative influences and temptations.

“Your involvement is crucial in shaping them into responsible and resilient adults,” he added.

Mr. Tikoduadua expressed that witnessing the discipline, unity, and dedication of the students at Natabua was truly inspiring.

“You are not just cadets, you are the future leaders of our community.”

He acknowledged the students’ hard work and determination, noting that they have learned the value of resilience against challenges, adversity, and negative influences such as drugs.
