Fiji’s athletes Marseleima Moss and David Young have concluded their campaigns at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships in Singapore with remarkable achievements.
Eighteen-year-old Marseleima Moss achieved a personal best in the Women’s 200 meters Backstroke, finishing with a time of 2 minutes and 30.72 seconds, improving her previous time by over five seconds. This performance marked her second personal best at the championships, with her earlier success coming in the 50 meters Backstroke. Reflecting on her race, Moss expressed satisfaction despite falling short of her target time, stating, “I have to be happy with a season’s best… I was just hoping for under 2.30.”
Moss, who recently competed in the Pacific Mini Games in Palau, highlighted the challenges of the 200 meters Backstroke, noting her focus on her technique during the race. She credited her strong support team and her training, which helped her remain composed throughout the event.
On the other hand, David Young participated in the Men’s 50 meters Freestyle, finishing with a time of 22.32 seconds, just shy of his national record of 22.15 seconds. Young reflected that he pushed hard during the race, despite a less-than-perfect dive at the beginning. He plans to return to training, focusing on his performance in both the 50m and 100m freestyle events.
The World Championships wrapped up in Singapore, showcasing the dedication and skill of these young Fijian swimmers, who are paving the way for future athletes in their country. Their achievements reflect the resilience and potential of Fiji’s swimming community on an international level, fostering hope for their future endeavors in competitive sports.
