A total of 193 swimmers took part in the opening day of the Fiji Swimming Age Group Nationals at the Damodar City Aquatic Centre in Laucala yesterday. The competition featured 716 entries, showcasing young swimmers from seven clubs: Mako, Barracuda, Dolphins, Seals, Great White Sharks, Tritons, and Orca. Participants, aged between 10 and 22 years, included one swimmer from Australia.
Fiji Swimming president Lucy Erasito expressed her contentment with the event, attributing its success to the technical committee and the teamwork among club members. “The swimmers have shown great dedication in their training, guided by local coaches from both the East and West divisions,” Erasito noted.
With seven teams involved — four from the West and three from Suva — the stage is set for an impressive showcase of swimming talent developed by local trainers. Furthermore, athletes from the clubs will also select representatives for the Fiji Aquatics Athletes Swimming Committee, designed to advocate for their rights and well-being.
As this marks the final competition of the year, it will be followed by the Swimming Awards Night organized by the Seals Swimming Club in Nadi. This event will celebrate the athletes’ accomplishments and foster community spirit among swimmers.
