Kelerayani Koroi, a Year 12 student from Suva Grammar School, is set to wear the Fiji colours with pride as she represents her country at the upcoming Pacific Mini Games in Palau. This remarkable achievement is not only a significant milestone for Kelerayani but also a part of her family legacy, as her father, Jiujiwa Koroi, is a former national volleyball player.

Upon learning of her selection for the national women’s team, Kelerayani expressed her disbelief and joy, stating, “At first, I didn’t really believe it. But then, when I saw I was one of the athletes, I was excited and honoured to be part of the team going to Palau.”

The Pacific Mini Games are scheduled to take place from June 29 to July 9, 2025, in Koror, Palau. Kelerayani’s involvement not only represents her personal dream but also her father’s aspirations, making this experience truly special for their family.

In conjunction with Kelerayani’s achievement, young athletes across Fiji, like Iris Rae Fisher and Heleina Young, are also preparing for the Mini Games, showcasing their dedication to sports and their country. Iris, competing in Va’a (outrigger canoeing), and Heleina, a sprinter returning after a break, reflect the resilience and determination prevalent in Fiji’s athletic culture.

This spirit of courage and teamwork among Fiji’s youth athletes highlights a positive and hopeful future for sports in the region. With each story of achievement, there is an inspiring narrative that promotes aspirations of excellence, further uniting the community behind their athletes as they strive to make their mark at the international level.
