For the first time in 13 years, Yat Sen Secondary School has secured a gold medal in the long jump at the Coca-Cola Games Championship, with student Waisiki Komainaiqoro achieving a remarkable jump of 6.87 meters in the senior boys division. This victory is particularly significant for the school, as they last celebrated a gold medal in long jump back in 2012 through Milika Tuivanuavou.

Komainaiqoro, who expressed his determination to win since the start of his training, is looking forward to competing in the triple jump finals scheduled for tomorrow. After the conclusion of the Fiji Finals, he plans to shift his focus to swimming as he will also represent the school in the Fiji National Swimming Age Group Championship.

This achievement not only highlights Komainaiqoro’s talent but also demonstrates the perseverance and dedication of young athletes in Fiji. His victory resonates with the broader narrative of athletic excellence seen in recent competitions, where numerous students are setting high aspirations for themselves amid challenging circumstances.

The atmosphere surrounding the 2025 Coca-Cola Games has been filled with excitement, as many young athletes are motivated and supported by their schools, families, and communities. This collective ambition is essential for fostering resilience and excellence in sports, signifying a hopeful outlook for the future of athletics in Fiji.

Waisiki Komainaiqoro’s success serves as an inspiration, not only for his peers but for aspiring athletes throughout the region, reinforcing the idea that dedication and hard work lead to remarkable achievements.
