Team Fiji concluded their participation in the 2024 Paris Olympics with a silver medal and secured 74th place in the official medal tally. The silver was earned by the Fiji men’s rugby sevens team, which faced a 28-7 defeat against the host nation, France.
Most of the athletes representing Fiji were under the age of 20, marking their first Olympic appearance. They expressed pride in competing for their country and are motivated to enhance their skills for the upcoming Los Angeles Games in 2028.
In a show of support, Team Fiji athletes and officials were treated to dinner by members of the Fijian community in Paris. The gathering included Linda Acker, Eric Acker, Atonina Lasagavibau, Fero Lasagavibau, and Joe Rokocoko, who prepared a meal for the team and performed a traditional sevusevu ceremony.
Sale Sorovaki, Chef de Mission of Team Fiji, expressed gratitude to the hosts for their hospitality, noting that the athletes were eager to enjoy Fijian cuisine and bond with fellow Fijians in Paris.
Linda Acker shared her emotional sentiments about hosting the young Fijian Olympians, describing it as an honor. Former All Black Joe Rokocoko highlighted the importance of the gathering as a heartfelt gesture of thanks to the young athletes who now proudly represent Fiji.
